Good afternoon,

I hope everyone had a nice summer.  It sure has been hot.

I am writing you to remind you that summer band is starting August 1st from 4-9 P.M.  The drill is finished and ready to be put on the field.  The show’s theme is Down Home Jamboree.  It is the same music that I passed out at the end of the year entitled Music of Americana.  The new title fits the style of the music better.

We are going to be learning some new marching commands so it is important for everyone to be present at rehearsals.  A lot of the new commands are incorporated into the show.  Please practice your instruments and be active outside to acclimate yourself to the heat.  If anyone has moved into your neighborhood and was in band encourage them to join our organization.  Remember to bring water, sunscreen, ball cap, sun glasses and a light meal each rehearsal.  Each practice is going to be from 4-9 P.M. with the exception of Wednesday 4-6pm.

I picked out a few new stand tunes to add to our list.  Slow Ride, Immigrant Song, Rawhide, Livin’ On A Prayer, Enter Sandman, Born This Way, Soul Finger, Seven Nation Army, Hawaii Five-o, and Just Dance.  This will change things up a bit in the stands.

Saturday, August 6th is band registration and uniform fitting day. Please make sure a parent/ guardian attends because there is paperwork to be signed and fees to be paid.

8 – 9:15 A. M.  Seniors
9:15-10:30 A.M. Juniors
10:30-Noon – Sophomores
Noon- 1:15 P.M. Freshmen A-M
1:15-2:30  Freshmen N-Z

We will be adding dresses for the ladies this year for $53 for a more classy uniform look and tuxes for the gentlemen for $95.  Make sure that your marching shoes and tuxes still fit before August 6th.

Wednesday, August 10th is going to be yearbook picture/ football program day.  Students will be able to take individual photos.

Tuesday, August 16th is hotdog night and the Mighty Bulldog Band will debut their 2011 field show 6:30P.M. at the RCHS Stadium.

We would like for parents to be involved with the Band Booster Club.  If you have not been, please consider it.  They need the extra assistance and the band will sure appreciate it.  A link to the booster website is below.

If I can answer any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.  I can’t wait to see the band on August 1st.

Thanks,
Shayne Canning
